ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 (India and Sri Lanka)

The upcoming 2026 ICC tournament is the tenth edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. It is scheduled to take place from February to March 2026. Co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

This biennial Twenty20 International (T20I) tournament will feature men’s national teams competing for glory.

Back in November 2021, the ICC announced that Sri Lanka and India would co-host the event. Sri Lanka previously hosted the T20 World Cup in 2012, while India hosted it in 2016.

A total of twenty teams will participate in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, similar to the previous edition held in 2024.

The two host nations (India and Sri Lanka) have earned direct qualification, and the top eight teams (Super 8 qualifiers) from the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup have also automatically qualified for the 2026 edition.

The next three highest-ranked teams qualified based on the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings as of June 20, 2024.

The remaining teams will be determined through regional qualifiers.

Format of 2026 ICC T20 World Cup:

  • Group Stage: 4 groups of 5 teams
  • Super 8: Top 2 from each group advance
  • Knockouts: Semifinals and Final

A total of 20 teams will be divided into four groups (A, B, C, D), each consisting of five teams.

During the group stage, each team plays four matches against the other teams in their group.

After the group stages, the top two teams from each group will move on to the next round, which is the Super Eight. The Super Eight will be divided into two groups (Group 1 and Group 2), and each team will play three matches against the other teams in their group.

The top two teams from Group 1 and Group 2 will proceed to the knockout rounds, including the Semi-Finals, and the winners of Semi Final 1 and Semi Final 2 will compete in the Final for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

  • Europe Qualifier: 5–11 July 2025 — Netherlands
    • Netherlands and Italy have qualified to play in the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup. They earned their spots by performing well in the Europe Qualifier tournament held in the Netherlands from 5th to 11th July 2025.
  • Africa Qualifier: 19 September — 4 October 2025 — Zimbabwe
  • Asia–EAP Qualifier: 1–17 October 2025 — Oman
  • Americas Qualifier: TBD, 2025 — Canada

Quick Recap: ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup

The International Cricket Council (ICC) first introduced the Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup in 2007, with the inaugural tournament hosted in South Africa. It was a resounding success, with India winning the first-ever T20 World Cup by defeating Pakistan in the final.

Since then, the tournament has been held every two years and has become a major ICC event in the world of sports.

The most recent edition, the 2024 T20 World Cup, was co-hosted by the West Indies and the United States. The next edition is scheduled for February–March 2026 and will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

As of now, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup has been held 9 times, and 6 different teams have lifted the trophy:
